Jonah Hex - Those “Come-To-Jesus” Meetins

Parent / Teacher Conferences start today. I don’t mind them. I like sitting down with my parents and talking to them. I will have to say some tough things to a couple, but I have already had conversations with them about the tough topics – no one will be shocked. Unless I get shocked. I’ve had those conferences also. I try to be a team player and work with the parents. I know they understand whatever I have to say that is tough comes from love. After saying something tough  I always offer a plan to help them and their child.

Those “Come-To-Jesus” Meetins

“Later, we’re gonna have a ‘Come-To-Jesus’ meetin.” - Jonah Hex *

Raised by an alcoholic father, Woodson Hex was badly abused and eventually sold into slavery. He ran away and was adopted by an Apache Chieftain after Hex rescued the Chieftain from a puma. The truly unfortunate thing Jonah Hex was forced to fight in the Civil War for the side of the Confederates, the very people that sold him into slavery. Through all his battles and tortures Jonah Hex was badly scarred. Jonah eventually became a bounty hunter in the Wild West. Although he is considered horribly disfigured Jonah Hex is respected for his honesty, honor and his high-code of conduct.

So, what are those “Come-to-Jesus” meetings? They are a moment when we are told or shown the truth. Most likely they come from friends who care and are worried about us. A teacher will have meetings like these during the school year. An employer might remind an employee to get to work on time. The friends and family that gather with a loved one to have an intervention about the drug abuse. The parent informing a child about the poor choice of friends. The things to think about is the message and from whom the message comes. If we are going to bring someone to a “Come-to-Jesus” moment, we need to be sure we are accurate and honest. We also need to look at how much we care for the person. For those that receive the messages remember the message comes from love even if it is the employer. To both parties of these “Come-to-Jesus” meetings remember to keep an open-mind and open-heart.
