Silver Surfer - Peace

Another character I am fascinated by is the Silver Surfer, Norrin Radd. His ideas of Peace and acceptance always inspires me. He is the true idea of the peaceful hermit traversing the universe. There was a time I saw my life as a peaceful hermit just going through life. I still think it would be a glorious life.

“Amongst the mightiest, the most supposedly savage of Earth’s creatures I sit in peace. I dwell in safety; for food has been plentiful and no longer do we hunger. Unlike the humans that call you beast, there is no violence in your heart, no hint of avarice, no smoldering hate. Yet man who has won dominion all over this world is a stranger to peace.” - The Silver Surfer*

To save his peaceful planet, Zenn-La, Norrin Radd gave his life to become the “Herald of Galactus” seeking planets for Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds. Norrin Radd became the “Silver Surfer” to help his master find uninhabited planets rich in the life essence to eat. The high morality and peace Norrin Radd has, conflicted with his duties for Galactus and eventually the Silver Surfer was able to break free from his commitment, surfing through the universe in total peace.

What is peace? Where does it come from and how do we humans find peace? If the Silver Surfer, Norrin Radd was here he could tell us. But peace is in the heart; peace is in daily living. We are told as children to be “a peace maker,” to “turn the other cheek.” Peace is accepting people for what religion, for what nationality, what sexual preference, or home life they have. Peace is remembering that we all have the same feelings, the same desires, the same hopes and dreams. Peace is communicating saying what needs to be said without restraint, without hesitation, and without fear. Peace is treating others exactly the way we want to be treated.
